Fun Friday! Busy Building School Garden

Today I am volunteering at our neighborhood elementary school to ‘build out’ a raised bed vegetable and flower garden. Hope to share some of the highlights next week.

Did you know anything raised in a school garden can be served by the school cafeteria in lunches and can also be used at snack times? What a great way to teach children the whole growing process – from planting to growing to cooking and finally EATING! Research is showing the younger kids begin eating whole foods such as healthy protein, fruits and vegetables the more likely they are to develop lifelong healthy eating habits. I know I love it when my children yell out to me they are going out to the garden to see what is ready to be picked. They especially focus their time in the strawberry areas!

Raised beds produce a lot of 'green goods!'
